Mr. Seungkwon Jang

Vocal Teacher

Seungkwon Jang is a Korean-born Australian tenor in his third year of classical voice studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he is taught by Barry Ryan OAM. Although he began his classical singing journey later than many, his commitment and rapidly developing artistry have quickly distinguished him as an emerging presence in the Australian operatic landscape.

In 2024, Seungkwon won First Prize in the Operatic Aria section at the Ryde Eisteddfod and secured Second Prize in the Open Age Lieder section. He was also a finalist in the 2024 Demant Dreikurs Scholarship Song Competition. In 2025, he was named a finalist in the Open Age Operatic Aria section at the Cowra Eisteddfod. His recent stage appearances include Arturo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor with Rockdale Opera, a soloist performance in Haydn’s The Creation at the Sydney Conservatorium, and the role of Koki in Parrwang Lifts the Sky by Deborah Cheetham Fraillon AO, presented in a co-production between the Sydney Conservatorium and Short Black Opera Company.

Upcoming engagements include performing in the Seymour Centre 50th Anniversary Concert with Deborah Cheetham Fraillon AO, singing the role of Gastone in Verdi’s La traviata with Rockdale Opera, and covering the role of Loge in Wagner’s Das Rheingold with Shaumet Music.

Seungkwon has participated in a range of masterclasses with leading artists and educators, including David Miller AM, Dr Nico de Villiers, and Francis Greep, further enriching his musical development and interpretive insight.

He is passionate about storytelling through both opera and art song and aspires to contribute meaningfully to the operatic world in Australia and beyond. Guided by a deep desire to communicate across cultures, he is committed to connecting with audiences through the expressive and emotional power of the human voice.
