Ms. Aurora Shang

Piano & Flute Teacher

Aurora Shang is a classically trained pianist, flautist, and music educator, currently undertaking a Bachelor of Music in Classical Piano Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney, alongside a Bachelor of Advanced Studies in International Relations.

As a pianist, Aurora has developed an advanced classical performance background, supported by an ABRSM Diploma in Piano and extensive training in repertoire, technique, sight-reading, aural skills, music theory, composition, and improvisation. She was awarded First Place in Sight-Reading at the North Shore Piano Competition, demonstrating particularly strong musicianship and score-reading ability.

Her performance experience extends beyond solo repertoire into chamber and collaborative music. At the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Aurora has performed and competed as a collaborative pianist with violin, further developing her ensemble sensitivity, musical communication, and understanding of instrumental repertoire. Her background also includes original composition, with her work for brass quintet performed by professors from the University of Auckland.

As a piano educator, Aurora has taught students ranging from complete beginners through to advanced musicians working at Grade 5–Diploma level. Her teaching combines strong technical foundations with musical interpretation and stylistic understanding, and she has experience preparing students for examinations under both ABRSM and AMEB syllabuses. She places particular emphasis on developing secure technique, expressive playing, sight-reading, aural awareness, and independent musicianship.

As a flautist, Aurora is equally accomplished, holding an ABRSM Diploma in Flute and bringing substantial orchestral and ensemble experience to her teaching. She has performed as an orchestral flautist with the Auckland Youth Orchestra, working within a professional-style orchestral environment under a conductor and developing a strong understanding of ensemble playing, orchestral discipline, balance, phrasing, and musical communication.

Aurora has also performed on both flute and piccolo as a member of a selective orchestra for choral competition, giving her experience across multiple orchestral roles and instrumental colours. Her flute training encompasses advanced repertoire, tone production, breathing, articulation, embouchure, technique, and ensemble performance.

As a flute teacher, she has worked with students from beginner through approximately Grade 8 level, supporting the development of tone quality, breathing technique, embouchure, technical fluency, repertoire, examination preparation, and overall musicianship.

With high-level training across two classical instruments, extensive teaching experience, and a strong background in solo, collaborative, and orchestral performance, Aurora brings a versatile and highly musical perspective to her teaching at Shaumet Music Academy.
