Drum Teacher
Alice Richards is an emerging Jazz Drummer and Percussionist with 12 years of experience in performance, as well as conducting, composing, and directing. Starting drum lessons at the age of 6, she has performed in Big Bands, Orchestras, Wind Ensembles, Choirs, and small Jazz ensembles, giving her a wide range of knowledge from across various musical genres.
Being accepted into the highly renowned Conservatorium High School at the age of 11, she undertook intensive study of Western Art music, encompassing Baroque, Classical, and Contemporary music analysis, performance, and composition. Additionally, she was trained in Orchestral Percussion under the tutelage of Allison Pratt, while also participating in the Arts Unit Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SWE), and Arts Unit Stage Band where she continued to hone her Jazz Drumming skills. She finished her schooling under the tutelage of Andrew Dickeson, earning her a place in the Jazz Performance course at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. During her studies at the Conservatorium, she has worked with esteemed Jazz educators and performers, and has had the privilege of studying under Simon Barker.
Alice’s broad musical knowledge has given her a deep understanding of music practice, which she is dedicated to impart onto her students. Her disciplined approach is integrated with an individually developed learning plan that ensures technical development along with a deepened love of music.
