Drum Teacher

Alice Richards is an accomplished Jazz Drummer and Percussionist with over 12 years of performance experience, as well as expertise in conducting, composing, and musical direction. Beginning drum lessons at the age of 6, Alice has performed in a wide range of musical settings including Big Bands, Orchestras, Wind Ensembles, Choirs, and small Jazz ensembles—equipping her with a broad understanding across genres.

She was accepted into the prestigious Conservatorium High School at age 11, where she undertook intensive training in Western Art Music, covering Baroque, Classical, and Contemporary repertoire through performance, composition, and music analysis. Her orchestral percussion studies were guided by Allison Pratt, while her Jazz skills were further developed through involvement with the Arts Unit Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SWE) and Stage Band.

Alice later trained under the mentorship of leading Australian jazz musicians, including Andrew Dickeson and Simon Barker, refining her technical ability and musical voice.

As an educator, Alice brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for music education. Her teaching style combines discipline with creativity, offering tailored lesson plans that promote both technical growth and a lasting enjoyment of music.
